People who say "just an animal" have never known an animal

and anyone who thinks that you can run out of love by loving too much has no real idea what love is like.

So if you ever lose a dog or a cat or any non-human friend, and somebody tries to tell you that you shouldn't grieve, just relax and try to have some empathy for that confused, miserable bastard.

In some important ways, you've been more fortunate in this life than they have.

P.S. The following Piece of Advice sounds pretentious, but I think it makes a big difference when properly understood, so here we go: one of the keys to a life well lived is really understanding that you can live with heartbreak. When you wake up in the morning feeling sad, it may not feel good, and yet it's alright. Heartbreak doesn't mean that you're doing something wrong. You can live with this shade of experience. As long as it's not the only shade in your life forever, it's really not going to kill you.
