If you value wisdom and compassion, one of the most important things is knowing when to shut up. You can't just keep talking and talking, pushing and pushing. Wisdom and compassion require the ability to access levels of experience that are very intuitive, sometimes even mystical. If you think you can understand other people simply through logical and rational discussion of ideas, a lot of people are going to remain incomprehensible to you.
I've changed my mind a few times, and interestingly, the things that have made me change my mind haven't usually been facts or arguments alone. The most important change that's happened has usually been some shift in the emotional space around what I'm saying and what the other person is saying... Suddenly feeling where the other person is coming from. When that happens, it becomes possible to understand why they're saying the things they're saying.
Emotional limitations are intellectual limitations.
