I watched a few episodes of The Big Bag Theory. (Season 3.) I've never watched it before, but now I did. It was confusing, I must say. There's this guy Sheldon, who's very eccentric and incapable of understanding social norms. He has a roommate called Leonard. Leonard is supposed to be the normalish person who reacts to Sheldon's outrageous behaviour in ways that the audience can relate to. He's constantly exasperated and annoyed with Sheldon. All the other characters seem to agree that Sheldon is very obnoxious and unpleasant, so everybody's constantly saying mean things to Sheldon.

Now, maybe this would work if Sheldon actually was obnoxious. But he isn't. On the contrary, everything about the character is abnormally adorable, as if the main function of Sheldon is to evoke an "awww" reaction from the audience. Sheldon is arrogant and self-centered, but in a very innocent and cuddly way. The way he knocks three times and says "Leonard. Leonard. Leonard" when he wants to enter a room... That's almost painful, man.

So the whole vibe of the show is a bit surreal: a bunch of people bullying The Cutest Man in the World.

Of course, as I was watching, it seemed possible to me that I was simply "watching it wrong". Maybe there was something distorting my perspective and making me perceive the character as more endearing than he was supposed to be.

Then I realized what it was...

I bought hand soap that makes my hands smell like some mysterious summer night from my past, or maybe a night I've only experienced in a dream a long time ago. Whatever it is, it makes me happy.
