Sure. You are logical, rational, scientific and right about everything simply because you are you.

Somehow I always manage to forget how crazy and disturbing people can be, especially on the internet, and then it's always a shock to wake up to it again.

Morrissey is a legendary English singer that I've loved deeply for years. (Here is me shaking Morrissey's hand with my own sweaty hand:

)

Anyway, everything Morrissey does is not always golden. For some reason, yesterday Morrissey himself or somebody else decided to post a video on true-to-you.net. (A website that could be described as Morrissey's 'blog'.) Here's the video:

The person in the video is someone called Paul Joseph Watson. He's here to tell us the Truth about popular music. Basically the video is him talking about a couple of online articles he's read, about the way popular songs are being produced nowadays. A lot of the video is just Paul Joseph saying that the music that he dislikes – Coldplay, for example – is stupid and that people who like that music are being brainwashed. (Whereas he is scientific and rational and objective. Because he just is.)

It's true that a lot of mainstream pop is manipulative and trashy. I don't like it and I'm not defending it. But it's also true that someone could easily make a video about the worst moments of popular music in the 70's and then contrast those with snippets of the best pop music of today, and that would be just as 'objective'.

...

T
he ridiculous majority of everything on the internet is just crap. It's seriously worrying that people keep reading idiotic online articles and then claiming that 'science' is on their side. People's opinions tend to be highly emotional and irrational - but now everybody can just find some crappy website to support their angry opinions, and suddenly 'science' is on everybody's side.

This is, literally, a billion times bigger problem than the fact that people are taking in stupid pop music: the fact that they are constantly, almost 24/7, taking in bad and biased information and believing it if it makes them feel good.

The internet gives everybody a comfortable room where they can slowly and steadily become more and more certain that they are right about everything, and that people who see things differently are wrong about everything. Which means that people are becoming increasingly ignorant of how the world and life actually work.

And I still see people wondering why every party in every debate seems to be getting more aggressive, and why every conversation seems to turn into a hateful shouting contest. I'm afraid that this is only going to get worse.

Paul Joseph doesn't tolerate crap when it comes to music, but he definitely seems to enjoy crap when it comes to other things... Believe it or not but "The Truth About Popular Music" seems to be the sanest video on the channel. Some titles of his other videos:

This guy believes everything.

And there are so many people like this. I meet them in my own life, people praising Hitler and talking about lizard people, because they read something on the internet.

At the moment, Paul Joseph Watson has 292 892 subscribers.

292 892 people, praising him for how critical he is. Lord help us.
